Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge
Indianapolis Motor Speedway · Indianapolis, IN · May 18 to May 30, 2027
Dates are the published 2027 edition (111th Running). IMS lists the event as 'May 18-30, 2027 | INDYCAR' in its own events nav, and the 2027 reorder page is headed 'May 30, 2027' for race day. IMPORTANT: the live camping page still carries the CONCLUDED 2026 (110th) edition detail, namely 4-day RV check-in 7 a.m. Thursday May 21 with departure by noon Monday May 25, and qualifying-weekend camping Friday-Sunday May 15-17. The IMS camping product page states verbatim 'Camping at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is SOLD OUT for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500' and 'This event has concluded'. 2027 camping check-in dates, prices and inventory are NOT yet published.
The drop date is not published yet. We are watching for it.
This is a renewal ladder, not an on-sale you can win by refreshing at noon. IMS states 'All parking (including ADA parking) and camping passes may be renewed during the renewal period. If you currently do not have a pass, you may apply for one (application process) when reordering your tickets.' Existing passholders keep their exact space year over year, so almost nothing reaches the open market. The order of operations, in the speedway's own words: renewals are processed first, then upgrade and change requests beginning around September, then brand-new applications, which 'are fulfilled after the processing of all renewal and upgrade requests. This generally occurs in the late fall.' Only after all of that does IMS open live public sales: 'Once all upgrade/change and new applications have been processed, the website will open for live sales. That announcement will be made on IMS.com in late fall.' No date or time is published for that live-sale moment. Priority inside the queue runs on account seniority, defined as consecutive years buying on the same IMS account, and IMS warns that 'over 25 years of seniority is typically required for upgrade consideration to any of our premium locations.' An application is treated as a binding intent to purchase: 'IMS views ticket applications as an intent to purchase. You will not be contacted to discuss options... All sales are final, no refunds.' For 2027 the renewal window has already closed: 'Please note the renewal deadline of June 15, 2026 has passed and we will make our best effort to assist you.' A newcomer's realistic paths right now are the 2027 ticket application (Apply Now on the 2027 Reorders and Applications page), calling the IMS Ticket Office at 317-492-6700, or watching for the late-fall live sale of whatever leftovers exist. For 2026 all ten race-weekend RV lots and all five tent lots read SOLD OUT, while qualifying-weekend Lot 2 RV and tent camping still read Buy Now, which is the recurring pattern: qualifying weekend is the gettable one. NO 2027 ON-SALE DATE OR TIME IS PUBLISHED, so none is recorded.
Official camping page- How you get in
- Renewals firstHard to enter as a newcomer.
- Hookups
- mixed, electric only, and no water or sewer hookups anywhere. Per the official lot table: 30 Amp AND 50 Amp available in Lot 4, Lot 5, Lot 6 and Lot 3P. 50 Amp only in Lot 4 Premium. NO electric at all (fully dry) in Lot 1A, Lot 1C, Lot 2, Lot 9 and Lot 3G. Water and waste are paid third-party services, not site hookups: Service Sanitation provides portable restrooms, RV waste pump out and RV NON-POTABLE water fill on a published schedule (6 a.m. to 6 p.m., contact 1-800-909-5646), unavailable on race Sunday. Electric support is contracted to United Rentals and covers Lots 3P, 4, 4AP, 5 and 6 only, and is listed as Unavailable on qualifying weekend. Showers are scheduled in Lot 1A and Lot 2 only, also unavailable on qualifying weekend.
- Price
- Not stated on the official page. Confirm with the event.
- Rig limits
- No stated maximum RV length. Sizing is by space, not by rig length: an RV camping pass buys a 20 ft x 40 ft space, a tent pass buys 20 ft x 20 ft, and standard daily parking spots are 10 ft x 20 ft. 'A vehicle that pulls a pull-behind or fifth wheel travel trailer does not require a separate Vehicle Pass, however the vehicle and the pull-behind or fifth wheel trailer must fit in the purchased 20'x40' spot.' Class A and Class C RVs may purchase a Vehicle Pass (10 ft x 20 ft spot) for up to one towed vehicle, and 'Towed vehicle passes must be accompanied by an RV pass. The towed vehicle must fit in an existing RV space in the lot.' Each pass gets exactly one space and 'A pass without a vehicle is not eligible for any space on site.' Prohibited: box trucks, box trailers, trailers with golf carts, golf carts, ATVs, scooters, mini-bikes, drones, scaffolds and platforms, swimming pools, early arrival, and dumping waste or wastewater. Generators are not prohibited and the safety notice explicitly references 'portable or RV generators' with a carbon monoxide warning, but excessive noise as defined by Speedway Municipal Code Section 9.12 is prohibited. Campfires only in an elevated device such as a fire pit or grill, no digging. Wristbands are required in Lot 1A and Lot 1C, six with an RV pass, four with a tent pass, and up to 10 more may be bought only by the passholder.
- Eligibility
- No club or membership required, but effectively incumbent-gated. Camping passes renew annually to the current holder, and new applicants are filled only after every renewal and every upgrade request is processed. Upgrade and reassignment priority is by account seniority (years of consecutive purchase on the same IMS account). The 2027 renewal deadline of June 15, 2026 has passed.
- Worth knowing
- OMITTED FIELDS AND WHY. price_low, price_high, price_unit and onsale_datetime are deliberately ABSENT, not zero and not guessed. IMS publishes no camping price anywhere on its site: the camping product page shows only SOLD OUT with no figure, and the Indy 500 ticket price pages cover reserved seats and general admission only, never camping. Do not populate these from a third party. end_date 2027-05-30 is race day and the close of the event window IMS itself publishes as 'May 18-30, 2027'; the 2027 camping check-in and check-out dates are a separate, unpublished thing. STALE-PAGE WARNING for whoever refreshes this record: as of 2026-07-27 the official camping URL is still serving 2026 content while the ticketing pages have already flipped to 2027, so the two disagree by design. Verified lot geography, useful for a traveler: North section is Lot 1A, 1C, 4 and 4 Premium; West is Lot 2, 5, 6 and 9; South is Lot 3G and 3P. The premium-priced dry-camping trap is real here: Lot 1A and Lot 1C are the marquee social lots, they require wristbands, and they have NO electric. Lots with power are 4, 4 Premium, 5, 6 and 3P. Guests must be inside their assigned campsite between 1 a.m. and public gate opening. Wednesday staging is allowed from 3 p.m. in Lot 1C or the Main Gate Lot; early entry into any camping lot is not. The venue postal address is 4790 West 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222, though the speedway physically sits in the Town of Speedway. lat/lon are venue-level approximations for map centering, not surveyed campsite coordinates. Ticket Office 317-492-6700, Mon-Fri 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
